Polyurthane collar

Posted by Allen McClung (amcclung@…>)

Hi Everyone,

I need a new polyurthane collar that goes around the mast to keep it
from banging on the sides of the hole in the deck. Anybody know where I
can get one, or in the alternative, what do I call it if I were to go
looking someplace else?

Hi - pour your own using http://www.spartite.com/. Works great and you can see
it is
reusable by looking through the photos of Emmylou (including new ones just
posted) at:

Thank you “emmylou’s” owner. Look at my boat on “Allen’s 21.” They
are even painted the same color. I’ll check out www.spartite.com. Do
you put the collar on and then use the spartite or does the Spartite
stuff take the place of the collar?

Allen - Spartite sells the kit for a bit over $100. You follow directions, mix the 2 parts and pour into the gap (after making a dam at the bottom between the mast and partners). The cured Spartite is both structural and (mostly) water sealant. You don’t need anything else and you can reuse it over and over (if you are careful - as we were - see http://www.seanmulligan.com/Stories/Emmylou307/target36.html).

— Thanks, Sean. I looked through your pix yesterday and saw the one
you attached. I’ll give it a try. BTW, do you know where you can buy
slugs for the mainsail? I have one missing from the top and nobody in
docks has one like it.

From your other photos, it looks like you have a jib. I have a self-
tacking staysail but it doesn’t seem to help much. Most of the other
boats in my area are J-24s and they take delight in beating me in
races every week. I can pass them when running with the wind, but
they sail so much higher than I can on reaches.

I had three slugs replaced by the sailmaker over the winter. They sewed the new ones on. Allen McClung <amcclung@…> wrote: — Thanks, Sean.
