powergrinder

I wrote about my solution to this issue several years back.
I have a 39 Express which has a large main and a large mizzen. I
purchased the 18V Milwaukee cordless when it first came on the market
and it worked fine. My wife can even use it to hoist me up the mast.
As the two batteries aged I began to look for an alternative for
although all worked I was only getting a couple of hoists per charge.
My solution was to purchase a DC to DC converter and tie the drill into
the house bank. There are a number of such inverters on the internet.
I purchased a Power Stream for $140 and tie it to the drill with a ten
foot long 10ga. tinned wire cable. The unit I purchased can be dialed
from 12 to 24 volts and I set it for 19.5 which is roughly the fully
charged voltage of the 18v battery. I took the guts out of an old
battery andconnected the cable interally to the contacts thus being
able to connect to the drill as usual.
I now have vertually unlimited power.
Hope this is helpfull to some of you.
