I broke the strut on my Freedom 44 (well, it broke on its own – i didn’t do nuffin) last year, and was informed by that Freedom guru Paul Dennis, of Warren River Boatworks in Rhode Island, that my strut had probably been made by the Essex Company of Massachusetts…which no longer exists. He told me that Edson (the steering wheel people) of Massachusetts made some Freedom struts, and they were willing to re-cast one for me from the broken pieces… but the wait seemed likely to be a long one, and in the end I had a new strut cast from the broken pieces by the Lunenburg Foundry in Nova Scotia. It was a massive piece of metal, once i extracted it from the hull of the boat, and it was buried deep and bolted in pretty thoroughly too! Hope I never have to go through that again!Good luckTomF44 JackrabbitBermudaOn Oct 8, 2007, at 3:21 PM, allanjcbs wrote:My prop strut on 1995 Freeddom 35 is broke and I want to replace. Tom Thanks. I located the mfg for mine. It’s Prue Foundry in Dennis, MA. I’m sure mine is also burried deep and glassed in.
