$66K is a pretty high price for a 33. You can occasionally find 39’s
in the 80’s and that’s a lot more boat for not much more money than
what they want for the 33. I think when some poeple sell a boat they
add up the purchase price and everything they put in it to arrive at
an asking price. It sits on the market for a while. Then they lower
the price to something close to what they paid for it and it sells in
a month or two. In the meantime they spent a bunch of money on
berthing, insurance, and upkeep.

Yeah, that’t true. Why don’t you make them an offer they can’t
refuse, and help them prevent making costs through the winter.
Perhaps they bite. And she’ll be in good hands with you.

I have not been aboard the F-33 for sale in San Diego, but I have seen her at the dock a couple of times. She looks very well cared for. She has won Opening Day at the San Diego Yacht Club at least once recently. This boat does not look like a fixer-upper.

Tom,
I’m sure it looks quite nice. However it’s priced higher than any F-
33 I’ve seen for sale in the US. It’s not all that well equipped
either. There is no mention of a windlass. The autopilot is a model
I wouldn’t trust except in protected waters. No vane. The electrical
system is sadly inadequate for anything more than weekending. The
best things about this F-33 are the newer sails, vangs, and 30" high
lifelines. This boat is well suited for someone who intends to
remain in the generally mild conditions of Southern California and
intends to stay in marinas. And there may very well be someone with
that in mind that will buy it.

I sold my 39 for 99K and it was equipped for serious cruising and,
dare I say, in near bristol condition. It was nicer than many other
39’s I’ve seen. However it didn’t sell for 20 or 30% more. I don’t
waste my time on boats with unrealistic sellers.
That’s not to say the boat won’t sell at that listing price. However
the guy that buys it will probably take a big hit when he sells
unless he can be extremely patient, taking 6 months or a year to
sell, OR, he gets lucky.

Next week I am looking at some boats down in California.
Unfortunately none are Freedoms but there is a rather promising old
CCA boat that has caught my attention.
