Thanks – what does “get the up size springs” mean though? I
assume you mean Garhauer?

It seems to me that lacking a boom cradle or topping lift on the Hoyt
F32, we’ve got a lethal instrument flying around when lowering the sail. I am
reluctant to rely on lazyjacks to support the boom – thoughts and other solutions
most welcome!!

PS Having just returned from
taking a Hatteras 60 down to New Bern from Baltimore – I didn’t realize the
weather was that bad per rweeks6508 recent post!! Our only real problem
was the heat – had to keep all the AC’s going and steer from the inside saloon
station. The icemaker in the after deck bar was also playing up which was
somewhat annoying!!

The Garhauer rigid vangs are great, but before and if you go
for one you might want to read my post #187 on the subject.

Hopefully I 've been able to attach two photos I took this morning of the fitting Mark Garhauer made up for me about five years ago. This arrangement not only saves the expense of the SS mast collar but allows me to keep the mast seal I developed.
The grey mast seal you see in the picture is has been in place for fifteen years and is still soft and pliable. It is made from shower pan liner purchased at Home Depot. It fits smoothly around the 10" mast and the 12" collar with no puckering or buckling. This is accomplished by cutting a 6" wide piece of materiel on an arc. For a 10" mast and 12" collar you need circumference dimensions of 31.41" & 37.7". You need to cut longer to allow for overlap which I then use sealant on . The radius for the cuts are 30" and 36". If your required dimensions are different you can find the formulas in basic geometry or trigAnd yes the two masts have not been out of the boat for fifteen years. I do go up the mast several times a year to inspect.
I hope you find this helpful. There are 3 photos in separate emails. It is too big to sent with it all in one.
