I installed a SSB and automatic tuner in my F32 (Hoyt) about 14 years
ago before sailing from san Francisco to Hawaii. I used the starboard
pennant line and asimple insulated wire (purchased at a hardware store)
with end insulators. I mounted the automatic antenna tuner to the
overhaead in the lazarette with the lead coming out through a bulkhead
feedthru in the coaming on the side of the cockpit and then to the
antenna. When I wasn’t using the antenna I would lower it, coil it up
and secure it to the rail , and run the pennant line up to the rail in
the vicinity of the mast so that it wouldn’t interfere with tacking or
gybing. For a ground from the antenna tuner I used copper foil running
to the one of the keel bolts. The setup worked fine and I was always
able to communicate with California except for once when I could only
get Australia. Let me know if you would like any more info.

Hello all,
I am considering installing a SSB-given to me by a friend. He said it is
difficult mounting the antenna, and grounding it.
Does anyone have any solutions to those problems or had experience installing a
SSB
Thank you so much for that information. And thank you everyone else who has been contributing to this discussion. It has been a puzzle as to whether it could be done. It’s good to hear from someone who had done it and it has worked.
Again, thank you one and all.
