Re: F-33 Rigid Vang photo hatch question

Posted by akusinitz (akusinitz@…>)

I noticed in your first photo the hatch looks different from the
original on my F-33. I’m about to replace mine and was wondering
what brand/model you have and if you’re happy with it?
Thanks

I just posted 2 photos in the photo section of my Garhauer vang
and
the stainless collar they fabricated for mounting it to the CF
mast
on my F32. I’ve had mine for about 6 months now.

I have nothing but positives to say about Garhauer and the quality
of the stuff they build. Tha added bonus is they happen to have
very
reasonable prices. This is a great piece of equipment that makes a
very real difference in the balance of the boat. Adding this to
the
boat was an unqualified sucess.

Has anybody used a rigid vang on the F-33 (standard booms)? What
are
they pros & cons? Any challenges? What sources did you use for
the
vang & hardware?

Thanks.

They are the OEM hatches for my F32 and they are made by Bomar.
Beyond that I don’t know a model number they are but the one over the
main cabin and over the V berth are about 16"x16" (I guess) and the
ones over the aft cabin and the head are about 10’x10" (another
guess.)

I like them. They are solid aluminum frames and polycarbonite lenses.
They don’t leak and I haven’t had to mess with them much at all. I
buff out the lenses with brasso about once a year. The black finish
on the aluminum fell victim to the Florida sun a number of years ago
but I just lightly sand them and paint them every 3 years or so with
hardware store enamel and a small foam brush. They look essentially
new after that.
