Re: F33/35 Centerboard

Hi Gerald,

I had a UK-buildt F33/35 until about nine years ago. Following some
trouble with the certerboard halyard I lifted the lid of the CB case. As
to my remembrance the CBs pivot bolt was supported by a massive inverted
U made of GRP. I never released this, but I think this U is fixed to the
sides of the CB case by way of the bolts that you mentioned. If I got it
right, the CB can be lowered together with this support and once outside
its case the pivot bolt can be removed. I had some blueprints of the CB
construction but I think I gave them away when I sold the boat.

I hope this helps a bit.
Greetings,
Peter

Back to F33/35 centreboards: does anyone know how to get at the pivot at the
forward
end, please? There are some bolts through the casing side, but above the pivot
point, and
they are obviously not the pivot itself. Do they hold the bearings for the
pivot in place?
Can the board be lowered out of the casing? I get some thumping from the
casing when
the boat is in a rough beam sea, especially on starboard tack, but this is
probably due to
damage to the chock which locates the aft edge of the board when it is fully
down. That
can be replaced, but it would help my peace of mind to inspect the bearing as
well.

All advice gratefully received, (and any action my responsibility).
