Re: Freedom 24

Al,

Yes indeed the Freedom 24 was built.
They made about 4-6 hulls I believe. Once in a while one comes on the
market and sells in the $20’s. It’s a great boat but cost so much at
the time it was built there was very little demand.
I think it was around $60-70K when it was new.

I have now uploaded the brochure info on the Freedom 27 to the
photo
section. This comes from a full line small Freedom pamphlet. It
does
not have a date, but includes the Freedom 27, 30, 36 and 44. My
guess
is that it is a 1986 brochre, as I know the boat was released in
1987
as the 28. The picture accompanying the description and interior
drawing is actually that of a Freedom 30. In the brochure one can
tell
that the pictures of the 30 and “27” are of the same boat taken on
the
same day. Ah, marketing!

Thanks for the info, Dave. I’d love to see one in person some day.

Norman:

I saw the listing for your F24 on Yachtworld. She is indeed a special boat and I’m sorry that you are parting with her. Alas, I’m going to hang onto my F30 a while longer, but I’m sure you’ll find someone who appreciates the many special qualities of Freudian Ship.

Dave, Al and Tom:

I not only have the original Freedom 24 brochure, but regrettably, I have recently had to put my '96 up for sale. With all my upgrades (like heavy duty electric keel winch, kickup rudder, etc.), I must price it in the mid-30s, but what a great performing boat in great shape. Someone is going to get a great bargain. I can be contacted directly (normancamp@comcast.net). Here is a modified description from Yachtworld.

Freudian Ship is a Bill Tripp design Freedom 24. Incredible performance for a comfortable single-handed cruiser-racer. Has retractable high performance bulb keel with electric winch. New Honda 9.9 with Elec. trim and controls in the cockpit. Special carbon fiber hinged step mast with telescoping mast lowering and carrying device for trailering. UK full batten mainsail, UK 100% self-tacking jib with navy leech cover and new ProFurl roller furling . Custom asymmetric spinnaker like new, complete spinnaker rigging with telescoping, articulating gun mount pole for single-handed jibes and spinnaker sailing with all lines led aft. Recently refurbished custom Triad tandem trailer w/ surge brakes, enclosed portable head, compass, depth transducer (no thru-hull) with Garmin “black box” wired to accept Garmen 172C chart plotter; opening ports, and galley w/ sink, bow pulpit, lifelines, and stern rail and built in swim platform. New canvas and cushion 2005.
