The engineer who is servicing my Mull F32 advises that
the Y valve has seized and is beyond economic repair.

Has anyone replaced this unit and if “yes” what
make/model did you use and where can it be purchased?

The engineer has located a possible replacement on
Go2Marine’s website - it is a Bosworth BM95 (Go2 stock
part 86250). An alternative model might be the Model
95 Sea-Lect Y-Valve also available from Go2 (Stock no
89922).

Grateful for any assistance/guidance.

Regards

David

Hi David, I replaced mine a year or so ago. Any model will work as long as the hose size is the same. West Marine has several, although they are expensive comparatively. Defender is much cheaper. Sward ABC <oldbrochan@…> wrote: The engineer who is

Actually, I’m about to replace the y-valve on my boat with a y-valve that locks.
I’m putting
the boat on the lake and this will satisfy any inquiring minds with the marine
patrol. West
Marine carries this type of valve (and they ain’t cheap). It padlocks in place
so it’s
impossible to accidently discharge.

David,
Has your Y-valve ever rotated? If not,
you may have an interlock piece in the Y-valve to
hold it in the Tank position, and not permit it
to rotate to the “discharge overboard” position. Herm

Herm,

Many thanks for your reply.

The “Y” valve was fully operational during my initial
survey of the boat about one year ago. Then when I
took delivery of her in June of this year, the valve
was jammed solid, fortunately in the discharge
overboard position. I suspect any damage done
happened during the re-commissioning of the boat after
the European winter.

The engineer advised me that the valve, which he took
apart, is beyond economic repair. I’m not in a
position to argue with him since (a) I’ve never taken
such a valve apart myself and (b) the boat’s in
Holland and I live in Scotland so I have to rely on
professional help now and again.

Do you, or does anyone else on this board, know the
make and model of the “Y” valve that Freedom used?

Regards and Seasons Greetings to you and everyone else
on this board.

David

I’d go with the Whale MSD 5606.
Not familiar with Bosworth. Must be an EU based company.

Dave,

Many thanks for your e-mail.

I will get the engineer to have a look at the Whale
“Y” valve.

Bosworth is indeed a US company
(www.thebosworthco.com)located, according to their
website, in Rhode Island. I seem to remember that was
the same area that Freedom Yachts were originally
from. Maybe there’s a connection (other than the ‘Y’
valve type!) between these two companies?

Have a great Xmas and New Year and again my thanks for
your advice.

David
