Sean, You might want to look at installing some line chocks on the gunwales at the bow. My prior owner had some skene (also sometimes spelled skein) line chocks installed. It kept the mooring lines controlled when on a mooring as well as later when I was moored at a slip. To install on the top of the gunwales, the backing nut goes into the inverted U-shaped channel. I.e., installed from the outside of the boat. To create a flat surface, I filled the channel with an epoxy filler where each bolt goes. I used the emergency epoxy stick - it is quite thick and stayed put (upside down). This provides a flat surface for a suitable washer then the nylon locking nut. Hint: Locate the chocks, drill the holes, then fill the underside, then redrill the holes through the epoxy filler. Determine a proper
angle from the central mooring cleat to the bow. The line in picture (http://www.seanmulligan.com/Stories/307MemorialDay/target12.html) is about right. Hi - Just back from West Marine picking up the new VHF. Looked at chocks and will be adding them with some kind of backing. Haven’t yet decided on size - the smallish ones will accommodate our dock lines just fine, but most mooring fields have much larger lines that would not fit. I suppose I could make a bridle of some sort…
