Freedom 21 HINs Numbers are found on the upper right corner of
transom)
EXAMPLE my HIN: TSP21295M84J
TSP STANDS FOR TILLOTSON-PEARSON
21295 STANDS FOR F-21, HULL NUMBER 295
M STANDS FOR MODEL
84 STANDS FOR 1984)
J STANDS FOR MONTH BUILT (J=MAY)
SEE http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.html FOR OTHER
MONTHS (Figure 1 - HIN Formats Before August 1, 1984, ie H=MARCH).
Looks like you are missing a number. If yours was built in March of
1984, I would think it was in the 200s. So look at the HIN on the
boat to get the correct number.

My son recently acquired a Freedom 21 that apparently hasn’t been
sailed for a while. We have zero experience with keel boats (I
sail
a Flying Scot) and are going to learn on this one…if we can get
it
sea worthy without breaking the bank.
Actually, the hull seems to be in pretty good shape. We found
some
old registration cards in the cabin that indicate it used to
belong
to someone living in Georgia…the cards say the hull ID is
TSP2125M84H. Based on this, can anyone tell us when it was
built,
and the hull number?
Although it needs plenty of work, our biggest concern is the lack
of
a mast. We have the bottom portion of the mast up to just above
the
goose neck…it appears it was sheared off somehow. We do have
an
alluminum mast that could possibly be sleeved into what is left
of
the carbon-fiber mast…but we haven’t really explored this
option
and we really don’t know if this is at all feasable. Does anyone
know the specs for the original mast so we can determine if what
we
have will work…or better yet does anyone know of an inexpensive
alternative to buying a new carbon fiber mast?
We haven’t had it long, but at this point we can also tell it’s
missing the spin pole and gun mount, the spinnaker and associated
rigging, and all other rigging too.
We look forward to exchanging information via this forum and
appreciate those who contribute to it. We would really like any
information on used parts, sources for the same, and Freedom 21
restoration nuances.
