I believe we have the same tanks on our F-33, as you have
described…Long, narrow, cyndrical shape. We had the valves replaced
with the new safety version that can be filled anywhere. I took them to
a propane company which offered refitting and filling. Ferrellgas Gas
was the company. I think the cost was $40 for the new valve, labor and
tank filled with gas. Look for your local propane delivery truck for a
business name and I’ll bet they re-fit tanks with the new safety valves.
Once you have the new valve…the average filling business won’t balk
when you need gas.
Hope this helps.

The old tanks need to be recertified as well. Propand distributors can dop
that as well.

Heather,
You don’t have the same kind of tanks…The tanks on the F-32 are horizontal. The new valves would block any propane from coming out of the tank. Horizontal tanks are exempt from the new valve.

I also attempted this on the East coast. Even though this is a possiblity,
my 20 year old tanks were expired and had run out of recertificaiton lives.
Am I just living with extremely conservative businesses?

Aluminum tanks can be recertified ad infinitum, provided they are not damaged
or corroded.
