Jerome,
Two questions.
How close to the wind can you sail the F-33?
How close to the wind would you normally choose to sail the F-33 when going to
windward?

Be realistic as to weatherliness. My F33,4.5 ft draft keel is not
spectacular to windward. She has full bows to support the weight of her
mainmast, which limits windward punching through seas. The LARGE diameter of
the masts ruins laminar flow over the fwd part of the main and mizzen, and
there goes more weatherliness. Adding a CB can’t make up for the above. Fall
off the wind a bit and these are not hindrances to performance. Below ,my 33
is capacious, and I have lots to hold on to in a seaway…I prefer the
simplicity of a keel-one less system to bother with.BTW,I have regular booms

Have you looked up the review in Practical Sailor on the F33? If memory
serves the boat they reviewed (or at leat the pictures in the article)
were
of an F33 with a centerboard. The trunk in the cabin really chopped up
the
interior space. When we went to look at the F33 (which we ended up
buying)
I was not expecting to like the boat becuase of this. The boat we saw was
an F33 with a shoal keel and a really great open interior. I probably
spend
more time below then actually sailing and I would rather have the open
interior with either a deep or shoal keel. My preference is the shoal
since
I am a coastal cruiser and the advantage of anchoring in shallow water
lets
us slip into alot of spaces that other boats our size can’t.

I’ve heard that the cb version is the best sailing of the 33’s. My
personal preference would be a cb model with the tall rig.

any and all comments are welcome pretaining to the boat and your
experience with a center board
