RE: Re: 81 Freedom 28 - need main mast &/or f or sale

Posted by Robert Lockhart (rlockhart@…>)

If I recall correctly (I’m not at home or I could verify) I paid 28,500. I
believe the current insured value (set by Boats US) is 24,000. Before the
hurricane, I would have asked 18-20,000 because she does need some work. As
is, w/out the mast replaced, I’d ask 12-15,000…Selling her will not be
easy or a happy occasion because she is a wonderful design and has lots of
potential I just haven’t had the time to work on her and it didn’t help that
I made the decision to buy her when I had a fiancé who was also enthused
about her and that relationship didn’t work out…She does have a bit of
history: the original owner (South African) commissioned her in England
believing she was the most boat that he could afford in which to sail around
the world. He sailed her through the Mediterranean then single-handed across
the Atlantic. An old flame that would not live on a boat ended his
circumnavigation plans. His story was used in a Freedom ad and Gary Hoyt
confirmed it when I met him at a boat show in St. Petersburg. I’m the fourth
owner…When I get back to Sarasota Wednesday I can fax info…Are you
located anywhere near Sarasota, FL?..Take care, Robert (cell 941-320-1520)

Are you still interested in selling the F28, if so, how much were
you looking for it?

I have an 81 Freedom 28 that lost its carbon fiber main mast in
Hurricane Frances; there was no other damage. Boats US Ins.
adjuster
is trying to locate one or figure a replacement but he, of course,
is
swamped w/ claims.

Freedom Yachts customer service did not respond to an earlier
email.

Does anyone know of a mast salvaged from damaged boat or can
anyone
suggest an alternative?

Currently located in Sarasota,FL I’m relocating to inland CT by
the
end of the year. I need to store the boat in a yard or sell it.

The hull is sound but needs TLC. She has two new Optima spiral
cell
batteries and I had a new aluminum fuel tank & 15 gal. holding
tank
installed in the summer of '97 (Expensiive since they had to pull
the
engine to get the fuel tank out; the new tank is just small enough
to
be removed w/out pulling the engine).

She draws 30" with the board up, has wishbone booms and wrap-
around
sails.

Please respond here or call my cell 941-320-1520.

Thank you,
Robert
