Sean,
I bought the boat in the fall of 1994. It needed massive cosmetic work
after sitting “on the hard” for 10 years. Didn’t even have a compass.
I had the boat in my yard so it was my wintertime project (Boston, MA
area). I did everything at once. Even stripped the bottom using
Peel-Away.
The ST-50 instruments were added the following year (after failure of
the ones (9v battery powered Datamarine units) that came with the
boat).
I can provide details of each enhancement as necessary.

And what a great job you did!
Did you make a plan and execute it all at once or do it bit by bit?
What was involved at the masthead? That looks incredible and I would
like to duplicate it (well, I may not choose to illuminate the
windex).Sean

Sean,
The push-pull switch was for the running lights. That’s all the
boat
had when built. In essence, no wiring. On mine, I converted the push-pull switch hole to a “power port”
(a.k.a. "cigarette lighter).I overhauled mine (#259) from stem to stern with a complete wiring
setup. Details at the freedom21.info site.(http://www.freedom21.info/bluemerle.htm)
