There is a F-45 in Puget Sound for sale on Yachtworld. The inventory lists a
storm trysail. Any idea how they are setting a storm trysail on the CF mast?

Maybe they just add a gate to the existing track?
There’s always parrel beads!

Good point. With all the new, high tech stuff, it is easy to forget simpler,
older solutions like parrel beads.

Thomas, this goes along with the old question : Why do
it simple and cheap, if it can be done complicated and
expensive? (ha ha, goes for the masts, especially)

I had the chance to sail a 58 or so foot schooner with that “old
style” rigging. It was a blast. I was very impressed with the fact
that all sailhandling duties were performed without a single winch.
It was easier than our F-39 ketch. There’s something to be said for
a boat with a low aspect sailplan like that. Check out Michael
Kasten’s website section on why he prefers gaff rigs. Makes you
wonder about all this progress.
