A jib (staysail) is available for the Freedom 21. Actually two. A

I bought the “class” staysail for my 21 (“Blue Merle”) directly from
Haarstick for about $500 (circa ~1996). See picture:

It is great in light air and for pointing. However, it needs to come
down above 10 knots of wind as the boat will be overpowered.
A worthwile investment. However, it does change your rating a bit.
You are no longer a “cat” rig, but a “sloop”. See the example ratings

Agree that having the Haarstick staysail makes for better all around sailing experience. And I’ll take the 243 rating any day! This little boat could actually win a lot of Wed. night races here on LIS because she is so good in light air (which is frequently the case here on summer evenings). My question is: where is the best performance - is it when the staysail is all the way up to the sheave or when it is tight to the tack? How much tension can be put on the halyard to stiffen the luff (given there is no wire forestay to hank onto)?

I’m thinking of getting rid of that line and replacing it with a shackle to the snap shackle. That should give a little more room at the head for tensioning. Also, has anyone used an inhauler to improve windward pointing? Seems like the thing to do unless one is going to go with tracks on the cabintop.

to the hoop at the top of the spinnaker sleeve on the gun mount.

Haarstick will not list Freedom 21 sails at their web site as the
model is “out of date”. However, they do have all of the proper
measurements as they built the original sails. In any event, the sail
dimensions are at the Freedom 21 web site

Ahhh…I see your cam cleat is inboard.
Emmylou has them on the outer edges of the cabin top.
If it comes down to racing your setup looks great.
Were you using the spin yard? Don’t see “reins.”

I ordered a jib two years ago from Haarstick and have been very happy with it.
They had all the measurments for it.
