It was a little confusing to me when I first did it, but it’s very easy to
do. There is a heavy stainless ring around the shaft and behind that a
black billows. Take hold of the black billows and compress it slightly by
pushing away from the engine. You should get some air, followed by water.
Once you get the water release the billows and you are done.

As I learned, you should do this when ever the boat has been pulled out of
the water.

Hi Jay,

This is my first year with an F35 and I have no experience with
dripless stuffing boxes. Can you provide any details on the procedure
for “burping” the shaft seal?
