Re: removing hatches

Jay,

I removed all six deckhatches of my F44. The drill (at least on the
F44) is this:

-Don’t remove the bungs and strips that hold the ceiling in place.
-In stead, remove bungs and screws that are in the vertical strips
ajacent to the hatch. These screws go into the side of the deck, NOT
in the underside.
-Pry the seam between teak and inside-hatch and carefully push the
total frame down, work each corner to keep the frame level and
prevent torsion.
-The whole wooden framework usually comes out in one piece.
-Some of my frames (the two largest) came off in the pieces.

Good luck
Michel

Several months ago I asked this group for advice regarding the
removal
of the forward deck hatch, for the purpose of rebedding due to a
leak.
I do not recall who responded with instructions on the removal
process, and this person had recently performed the same project.
I
removed the bungs in the teak hatch frame, removed the screws,
broke
the seal under the hatch frame where it contacts the teak frame,
and I
still cannot get the teak frame to come out. I assume it may be
held
by some adhesive or sealant near the top of the frame. I would
appreciate it if the person who previously responded could provide
any
further direction. Maybe you had the same experience? My next
option
is to cut out the frame and build a new one. I don,t really want
to do
that! Also, did you also have to remove the wood batts that the
headliners attach to to access the through bolts for the hatch?
Any
advice from anyone in this group would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Michel,

I’ll give that a try.
