I would stay away from laminated sails. Ours are about 6 years old
and had serious delamination last year. They came with the boat when
we bought it. North Sails made them but did not seem concerned that
they were delaminating after that period.

I studied this question a few years ago and I’ve put the main on hold
for now. Then, however:
My new Camberspar jib 2 years ago from Beirig Sails was roughly $900.
(Extremely nicely made sail. Complete, total satisfaction on my part.
Dave Beirig is a great guy to do business with.) Haarstick quoted
essentially the same price. (Nice sails, maybe, but Steve Haarstick
was a very prickly guy to talk to.) No one else seemed very
comfortable making one.
I haven’t bought one yet but a mainsail ordered from the orient (like
Rolly Tasker or Hong Kong Sail Makers) seemed to be in the $1800-
$2100 range. (There are 2 new Rolly Tasker sails and a few old ones
in my area and they look like very fine sails to me. In talking to
the Florida-based rep on the phone, they seem to know about the
somewhat unusual F32 mainsail well enough. I might end up there when
the time comes.) My local lofts (in the Florida panhandle) quoted
$2500 to $3000-ish. (I’d like to support my local guys and, instead
of just accepting whatever shows up from Thailand, having a guy to
talk to afterwards is worth some additional money.) Big national
companies like Doyle and North were $4000 and up. (Fine sails, no
doubt, but are they that much better?)
I happened across a great barely used one, but new spinnakers seem to
be $1500 and up if specially made for a F32. Still, it’s curious that
a J24 spinnaker is very, very close to being the same thing and a new
one could be bought and altered for something under $1000. There’s
also a ton of good used ones out there. I’ll look into that when
needed.

Thank you so much for that information. This week, I found a “rat” in my jib and he had eaten a hole in the sale!!! Both issues are unacceptable. As I looked the sail over, it seemed really worn anyway.
Does anyone know how to keep those little varments off the boat? I liveaboard at the end of a T dock and was appalled to see this “creature” come out of the sail as I hauled it. He started running around the deck and I chased him off into the water so know he’s gone, but don’t want to have that happen again.
I am planning on taking my 32 from Ft. Myers Beach, FL to Martha’s Vineyard up the Intracoastal Waterway from mid April to be there by the end of May. Is anyone interested in crewing?
