RE: SPAM-LOW: Re: Rhode Island Marina recommendation, please

Regarding mast unstepping/stepping:

Little experience is required beyond that of unstepping any
other keel stepped mast. Steps are:
1.
Loosen mast collar and tie it up so that it is clear of the
bolts which hold it and will rise with the mast.
2.
Disconnect wires for lights, radio, etc.
3.
Remove angle bracket or bolt which keeps the mast held down
4.
Remove trim rings from forward cabin overhead
5.
Drive the spacer (hard rubber or plastic thing around the mast)
down into cabin
Steps 1-4 can be done prior to attaching to the crane sling best
to do 5 when lift will be immediate

The manual that came with my F36 had a diagram of where the lift
point should be, it’s about ½ way up the mast if I recall correctly
because the bottom of the mast is much heavier than the top sections.

As someone else pointed out – Owner supervision should used.

Hi Ed,
Do you mean a marina or a boatyard? Try RI Moorings
(www.rimoorings.com) They have both and are located in North Kingstown
(formerly Quonset Point NAS). You could also try Clarks in Jamestown
(www.clarkboatyard.com) where I haul my Freedom 32’. They are also a
DIY boatyard. Good luck. Peter Bennett

Looking for a marina in Rhode Island (Narragansett would be preferred)
to put my Freedom 38. Would love a place that

  1. allows me to do work.
  2. Is reasonably priced
  3. Has some experience in pulling an unstayed mast.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Ed Reiss
