Hi Charlie,
I am thinking about adding a 3rd halyard for my spinnaker. I have a
Harken furler for my jib. The only F-21 3rd Halyard Mast Hound that
I have seen is what Matt Dwyer put on his F-21, “Engineered”. It is
a very small eye strap (which I could not identify the manufacture)
and feel it may not be adequate. Also he installed it with sheet
metal screws instead of rivets. I would appreciate if you could
describe what you used and how you installed your 3rd halyard.
Thanks in advance,
Nick,

I’ve owned, used and raced with the small and the large F21

The smaller one is not of much use, because you would use it only
in
very strong wind, and would be just as well off with no staysail.
For
me, it was a waste of money. The large one is great from 0-12 knots
of
wind. I used a small Harken staysail furler for my jibs, and
strongly
recommend doing that. I could furl in the large staysail a few
turns,
and still use it in 12-17 knots. Once you use the furler, you’ll
wonder
how you ever did without it. Happy sailing. Charlie

Hi Nick. I set up my additional spinnaker halyard just as Matt did
his. I use the original (lower) sheave for the staysail, which I
winch up pretty tight for racing. Happy sailing. Charlie
