Re the Clear and Awlgrip problem

Posted by Bob Tuttle (2rats@…>)

For removing the mystery flaking clear, I would suggest a good high
pressure water wash. This might take care of the problem.

Awlgrip does not handle abraiding by wet sanding, polishing or any
other method. It loses its original gloss. The reason (probably)
the clear is flaking is that is not clear Awlgrip and/or there was no
good adhesion as Awlgrip is slick. Clear coating is not necessary.

I suggest that you contact U.S. Paint in St. Louis for any more
suggestions as they do have excellent technical support and service.
You will be talking to people who know. Yard painters sometimes have
some bad habits so I would not talk to them unless all other venues
have been exhausted.

I was in the paint business and introduced Awlgrip to the Texas Gulf
Coast years past.

I left out the thread as all that repeating was redundant.
