Say Sward and Al…Would I do well with this on Ebay for my F30 to get the mainsail up? Sward you had gotten the electric big drill…did that work as well for you?
Let me hear you takes on this please.
I know I will need something as I’m not very strong. One sailor said a sail is easy to get up if you let it luft when you do it…Agree??
Thank you,
Lola

Absolutely; less force on the slides, and the shaking prevents any
minor hanging up of the main batten ends on whatever they always
manage to find. For good measure, I’d spray the track as far as you
can reach, and each of the slides with a Teflon-containing “dry”
lubricant. If you have plain bearing blocks on the main halyard path,
lubricate their bearings with “Lockease” which has graphite in it. Herm

I’ve
never used a Winchmaster, but certainly the concept makes sense. And with
a main as big as a Freedom’s, you should always head into wind raising or
lower it.

Yes, Lola, the Milwakwee horizontal drill works ok. It seems to run out of gas (battery power) after one use with the main sail. Yes, the boat needs to be into the wind-sail luffing to get it up. The drill is about half the price of that electric windlass, whatever it is, but looks like a good thing.

So I gather this will fit my Winch the one on E bay correct? Anyone else with thoughts on this , feel free to give me advice.
Thank you all.
PS Sward…is your drill heavy to hold and use?.Is there an advantage to it being heavy?.Also can you recharge it with out your generator?..Or with your Yanmar?..How long does yours take to recharge?

Alwalys head straight into the wind when raising the main if not you can put a lot of pressure on the sail, track and lugs and sometime almost impossible to get up. Right into the wind no pressure on anything.bobOn Sun, Aug 10, 2008 at 2:54 PM, Lola Jackson wrote:Say Sward and Al…Would I do well with this on Ebay for my F30 to get the mainsail up?
