Wow this seems to be getting complicated! Here’s what
I did every winter for years on my trawler worked great – of course I had
the bronze Thoroflush units which attached to the thru hulls and I think they
are no longer available. They had simple hose snaps on them which made it
easier for the process. But the same principle applies – just unclamp the
intake hose and shove it into a 5 gallon bucket of 25% antifreeze (potable environmentally
kind type) and 75% water and 10 oz of Salt-Away. Run engines to suck up
antifreeze mixture into raw water system. Shut down when bucket is nearly empty.
Reconnect hose and you’re done for the winter.
Vinegar in the heads is a good idea. Couple of spoonfuls every
week. Doesn’t matter whether overboard or into the holding tank.

I’ve
never seen pink antifreeze that you can dilute with water. I’ve always
used it straight, as they recommend.
On
the 2GM20F, I found that just over a gallon of the pink stuff was all that was
needed to winterize. I ran the engine until the exhaust water was clearly
pink and then shut if off.

Al, sure you can dilute it with water. I know that is not
the way it is usually used but almost all of it isn’t staying there it is
simply passing and offers enough anti freeze protection together with the
Saltaway.
