I recall seeing a discussion of replacing the black insulating
material wrapped around the wiring inside the mast to reduce noise
from slapping but I can’t locate it. As I recall the wiring was
placed inside PVC tubing inside the mast. Was the tubing fastened in
any way to the inside of the mast? My halyards are getting a nice
coating of black gunk and since my mast is down this year I hope to
solve this problem.

An alternative suggestion.
I have rewired 3 Freedom masts, with the forth one in process, that being a main mast on a Freedom 44. I use cable ties to hold the wire bundle away from the mast wall. About every 6 feet along the cable run, I connect three cable ties together in a star and leave the extended ends in place to act as a hold off from the inside wall of the mast. I leave the loose ends un-trimmed so that the ends bend rather then fit tightly inside the mast. If you trim them to fit, the cable ties will ratchet against the wall and twist the cable run.

I used a narrow gauge of PVC attached to the wall fo the mast.
You wouldn’t believe the crap that came out of there as a result of
that pipe insulation breaking down.
Use as small a diameter as you can so the wires don’t slap!

What did you use to fasten the tubing to the mast?
3M-5200?
