Retaining Ring for Bilge hand pump

Posted by jsforgey (jsforgey@…>)

I have a 1985 Hoyt F-32.

The plastic retaining ring that the manual bilge pump bolts onto that
sits on the wall in the cockpit has sun baked to nearly nothing. I
have bolt heads and little shards of plastic.

I looked on the web under the name on the bilge pump but to no avail.

Does anyone know who makes these now and where to find a retaining ring
for this darn thing?

Hi Scott, I looked into it a couple of years ago and found the the company no longer makes that ring and sold me a new cover, but it doesn’t fit on properly. What a disappointment. It’s a Henderson sold by Imtra in New Bedford, MA-my old home town. jsforgey <jsforgey@…> wrote: I have a 1985 Hoyt F-32.The plastic

Same thing happened to mine; the sun turned it to dust.

It’s been a few years so the details are now very hazy but Henderson
makes a flip-down replacement cover that is CLOSE to the old one but
a bit off from being an exact replacement. As I recall, I had to
wallow out some holes a bit to make it fit. I also had to be
installed so the door flips DOWN instead of up, which presented some
kind of problem (one that I don’t exactly recall right now.).

It still doesn’t fit exactly correctly, it doesn’t lie perfectly
flat, but it does fit well enough to work.

Someone looking at it probably wouldn’t know it doesn’t really fit
correctly until they really inspected it and used it a bit.

I couldn’t find a perfect solution. My workaround solution was a
little cheesy, but it does work.

The good news is that I remember determining that the whole problem
was not a crisis. As long as the pump stays solidly mounted the
absence of that cover/ring assembly on the outside didn’t really make
any difference; the pump will still work fine without it.

Why not save yourself the trouble and get a new pump?

New pump?

The old one works fine. The issue is
where it bolts through the wall of the cockpit and where the handle is inserted
into the rubber gasketed fixture.

There are bolts that stick through, new
pump would not solve that issue.

I am thinking of chatting with a few
people who fabricate nylon fittings down here. I could have one made but will
be wary of the cost of fabrication. After all, it is just a ring with holes.

Thank you everyone for confirming my dilemma.
