I have a similar request to the
group. I am thinking of taking my F35 to FL in the fall of 2009 and am
looking to winter over in a marina. Anyone have any suggestions as
to what would be a good marina and what I could expect for cost? I am
thinking of living aboard for 8 weeks or so and may also go over to the Bahamas’
for a bit.
I have heard much about the limited number
of transit slips and local zoning forbidding live aboards.
It’s a real big state, with at least three coastlines.
Marina availability and prices vary widely.
My boat is on the Central Gulf Coast in Tampa Bay. I live about 20 miles further
north, about 5 miles esat of the Gulf of Mexico.
Lots of areas and different sailing regimes to explore in this state.

Oops, I was thinking of the Keys. I
wanted to get far enough south on the eastern seaboard to avoid the cold fronts
pushing south. I spent one winter in St Augustine, nice place but chilly, although
lots better than Philadelphia. Marathon Key was one idea we had.

Hi Ed,
Do you mean a marina or a boatyard? Try RI Moorings
(www.rimoorings.com) They have both and are located in North Kingstown
(formerly Quonset Point NAS). You could also try Clarks in Jamestown
(www.clarkboatyard.com) where I haul my Freedom 32’. They are also a
DIY boatyard. Good luck. Peter Bennett

Marathon is a great place to spend the winter on a mooring. It is an awesome cruising community.

I gotta tell you that the main controlling factor governing where you can go in
the Keys is the draft of your boat.
