By now you guys know our setup. I’d like to add a ridding sail to our inventory as I set here in 30kt gusts sailing back and forth. It’s not too bad, but I’m thinking in a tight anchorage it could be an issue. And there are some tight anchorages in our future in the Bahamas.
So without reinventing the wheel, how about a quick and easy ridding sail? I can get my canvas guy to whip one up and ship it to me I think.

on my old boat i used to put the storm jib up the backstay
a flat storm jib set flying off the mizzen car or boom end would work
it needs to be heavy and flat so it dosent flog as far aft as possible and probably wants to be on the centreline
off one of the aft mooring cleats would be worth a try though
id rig a staysail halyard fwd and put the runners on too to stop it making the mast whip in a breeze

My suggestion is to borrow one and see how well it does. You don’t want to start filling the boat up with things that you don’t use. My experience on a 40/40 was that it didn’t do much and was more of a pain than it was worth.

Hi - from a Freedom 40 aft cockpit!
Have not been in a situation where we’ve needed it - yet!
I normally use a bucket or two - works fine as long as there’s a bit of tide.
