I want to replace the rope clutches on my Freedom 35 wishbone ketch. Spinlock are easily available & the XAS range (max holding 575kg) would possibly be suitable. Has anyone experience of using these on this boat?
Oryx
I am replacing my Lewmar clutches with Spinlock: they aren’t so good, but they are affordable and available. Biggest problem is the different hole spacing, followed by the reverse direction of lever operation. They are perfectly adequate, however.

Gerald
Gerald, Is it the Spinlock UAS range you consider suitable?
Ian on Oryx
Gerald , Should have been XAS of course!
Ian
Yes, the XAS are what I have installed. They should take any conceivable load on the lines at >500kg holding, perhaps even the centreboard (which is a four part tackle), although I haven’t replaced that one. Of course, the lines are probably 1000 kg breaking strain, but I suspect the blocks will give way first.
Gerald
Many thanks for that. Good sailing. Regards, Ian
