Rubber gaskets port holes

Posted by antoongoedecke (antoong@…>)

I have a Freedom 36/38 from 1988 (TSP36089H788) The portholes in the
main cabin (3) and 2 in the V berth are leaking. Where can I purchase
the rubber gaskets?
Thanks

If they are the fuller brush ports (5/8
inch solid plexiglass and white frames like on my 33 you can order parts or
full portlights at www.fuller.com in the
marine section.

Assuming that you are talking about the opening ports, my boat (1986 F36) has two kinds:

Forward ports in head, salon and forward cabin are plastic with screw-in closers. West marine sells gasket material (weather stripping with sticky back) that you can bend around the edges of the ports.
The two midships ports are aluminum with lever closers. Gaskets for these are no longer made. If you find some please post the source. Someone on this group suggested that I treat the gaskets with Amoral to condition the rubber. This helped a little. This year I treated the gaskets with a generous application of Teflon grease and have not had leaks since then.

I have all aluminium with the lever closers. I will try the Teflon
grease.
Thanks.

I suspect that they are Beckson, which is what was used on the F30s of
about that time. I bought new gaskets from West Marine.

For gasket materials, I’d look at the gaskets (numerous shapes and
sizes) available through J.C. Whitney. Herm

Bill,

I think your plastic ports are Beckson. If so go to Pampenette.com to
get the real gasget if you care to. They carry new screens and glass
too. But, more importantly, they have a new fangled cam lock for the
ports that replaces the old screw down closers. The cam locks are a
huge improvement and make open/close a snap compared to the screws.
The cams cost about $8.oo per port when I bot them coupla years ago. I
highly recommend them.

I goop my port gasgets with a thin film of vasolene every time I wash
down. Never a leak and the gaskets are nice and soft and rubbery after
several years.

HI, I ordered my Beckson rubber gaskets and lenses through West Marine. BOW was almost 1/2 the price. West matched the BOW price. Nice to be able to see clearly through and stop the dripping . Ports had been overtightened by PO. Seals ( gaskets )are only a few $ each. Andre, " Scaramanga "seychellois_lib <seychellois_lib@…> wrote: Bill,I think your plastic ports are Beckson. My F36/38 is the same vintage. My guess is that the port lights are Bomar. At that time Bomar ports had gaskets that couldn’t be replaced. I ended up replacing the portlights. The newer portlights have gaskets that can be replaced. Not a very user friendly solution. Try calling Bomar.
