I want to replace the rudder cable-have this panic feeling that soon it will go. Can anyone help with tips on how to do it? Measuring etc/ I asked about a jeniker (spelling?) the other day=no responses. No one has tried one?“Life is a Reach, then you Jibe” SWARD

Sward,

I took them off, went to a rigging shop and said " Make two like these" I kept the old ones a back up. The project is quite simple from a mechnical point of view. Access is the real problem.

Van, Are there 2? I’m not referring to the shift and throttle cables-which I already replaced - yes it wasn’t easy. I’m referring to the cable with the chain-looks like a bicycle chain with cable attached, I think, that goes around the rudder postBorelmfg <borelmfg@…> wrote: Sward, I took them off, went to a rigging shop and said " Make two like these"

Correct there are two. You have to remove the compass to access the chain to disconnect the cables from the chain.
I would budget one day and several curse words for the entire project. Also the cables cross inside the steering pedestal. I didn’t do this on the first go, only to find out that the rudder action was oppsite the way the steering wheel turned. Had to remove it all and start over (more curse words). I don’t know if this is standard on all Freedoms. So study what you have before taking it all apart.

Best of luck

If you’re into the pedestal,
you might consider R&R of the throttle and clutch cables. They are a royal
pain to replace and if they break during a sail, it makes for an exciting time.

I too had my cable break…and luckily while at dock.

I got it done, fished it through. Took it sailing only to
find out the controls were reversed.

My son could steer perfectly, but I was useless.

So…cross those cables, and grease them well while you are
at it.

Gennaker is a composite word. Made up (like the rest of language
isn’t?!)

Genoa + Spinnaker = Gennaker.

Spinoa sounds too much like an Italian dish best served with a
light wine sauce and a chianti.

A Gennaker has the parachute ballooniness of a spinnaker and the
tied down ends of a Genoa.

Good read: When a loose cannon flogs a dead cat….
