Has anyone sailed these boats further than just in a bay?
Has anyone heard of a passage made with these little boats? Coastal
trip?
I am impressed when I sail mine - I have a varied history with boats,
including cruising with a 30’ Piver Tri and most recently with my
Ingrid 38. I know people have crossed the Atlantic in a West Wright
Potter 19. One of my best friends for over 15 years is John Guzzwell
Jr. and he has sailed small boats (his 21’ copy of his fathers 20’
Trekka is still cruising after more than 20 years).
Not that I am planning on passaging; I know what the ocean is like
after 15,000 NM. I was just wondering if anyone did it and what did
they do to ready the boat.

One of the members of this group has or is planning to sail his
Freedom 21 to Hawaii. Search the back messages for the word Hawaii
and you can read the posts.
When I bought my Freedom 21, my goal was to do some long distance
sailing. A car accident totally my towing vehicle (no one was
injured) and nixed my ability to tow my Freedom 21 to water, so that
was the end of that dream. However, getting to the point of buying a
Freedom 21 lead me on a literary journey about long distance small
boat sailing. That journey is described in an article that I just
published to the Freedom 21 Web site at http://www.freedom21.info/books.htm. If you read the same books that
I did, you will sail your Freedom 21 to somewhere distant as soon as
you have good weather.
I would think nothing of sailing a Freedom 21 from NY to the
Caribbean or on to South America.
Sure. I sailed mine all the way down the coast from Boston, through
the Cape Cod canal, down Buzzards Bay and all the way to Newport, RI
and back.
Just mind the weather.

Did you motor through the canal–and was that any kind of issue with
regard to enough gas/ little motor etc.? It seems it would take a few
hours to get through the canal, and with a 3 gallon tank and an 8 HP
motor that could get sketchy.
