Sailmakers who understand unstayed masts and sails

What are the recommendations for sailmakers to build a new mainsail for a Freedom? Bonus points if they do square top sails (I just like the esthetics). I’m on the West Coast (SF Bay Area), but I’m willing to do “mail order”.

Background: I intend to retire next spring and want to move up to an inboard powered Freedom in the 10m range. So F32(Hoyt), F32-2(Mull) or a F33CK {if I can find a fixed keel}, maybe even bigger if the market allows [of course I wouldn’t turn up my nose at a spiffy F30(Mull)]. But I think I’m likely to need new sails, at least a new mainsail given how full batten sails seem to last forever, until they don’t. I’m not sure I’d feel comfortable with a sail built before the turn of the century.

All the add-ons for a used boat that’s a ‘project’ can add significantly to the total spend. So I want to find a sailmaker and learn about the market prices for a new sail that will work well on a flexy, bendy unstayed spar. Bottom paint, gelcoat, running rigging and engine repairs are easier to price out. [Updating electronics is another money pit I’ll have to deal with.]

Hey, did you figure this out? I’m working on this right now.

I think Mack Sails in Florida should commission me! Contact Mack Sails, give them the boat year/model, type of mainsail track/cars and they’ll give you a quote. I bought 2 sets thru them and hopefully another main coming up in 2026….sails fit perfect, roach headed mains, etc….

…and add really it’s not so much at all the sailmaker here. The real genius is the naval architect who designed the rig in the first place- the flex of the mast in a breeze spilling air at the top is something to watch. The sailmaker takes the specs from the designer - your choice for how many reef points, cars, etc the naval architect really lays it out. - see sailboat data.com
