I noticed after disassembling of both my Barient 27 winches that there are no shims for adjusting the self tailing jaws. I am used to shims below and in the middle of the self tailing jaws to adjust for line diameters. Is this a normal ‘Freedom’ thing, or am I missing the shims? Also, anyone know where a good place to purchase parts in the states? I am aware of a company in Australia that supplies the bearings, but curious if there is a supplier closer to home.
I took my 27’s apart this winter. There were no shims. The springs seem to self adjust and work fine.
I did need two bearings which I got from Australia. They were very responsive by phone and the parts arrived in 10 days or so.
Thanks for the input. I won’t waste time worrying about shims. On a side note, one winch was in real nice shape, but the other was nearly ‘petrified’. Guess the former owner did not use the foresail. I managed to get it all cleaned up and lubed. Works great now, but I am guessing I should be picking up some replacement bearings.
