has anyone replaced the stuffing box on a hoyt 32 with a dripless type ?
how difficult was the operation and perhaps it make sense just to repack with dripless packing.
In addition does the rudder shaft only leak when the stern is getting a following sea ?

I don’t have a Hoyt 32, but I have a 40/40 and I just finished installing a PYI PSS seal, and I can assure you that it’s an easy process. Here’s a link to their web site with installation videos and manuals.

Thanks Geoff ; I have heard that the process is not that difficult but I have also heard about GFO dripless packing material and I thought that repacking with this material might also achieve the same results.

Good luck with the change, working through that small cupboard access to get to the prop shaft flange is really awkward, I can only get one arm in at a time and you are going to have to remove the flange if I recall correctly. Also access to the actual shaft seal itself is a bit tight due to the base of the cupboard and the cabin sole.

The rudder packing also leaks when you are under power as the stern squats, fortunately the rudder is a lot easier, remove the trim panel that is under the pedestal and then remove the whole rear panel of the aft cabin.
