So should we revisit the idea of setting up a new spam free forum?

More and more spam hitting.
No way for one of us to become a moderator since we don’t have the
password.
Should we set up a new group - freedomyachts2007 perhaps, with multiple
moderators.
With moderators it would be easy to prevent spam.

A few years ago, when Alan K. and I suggested a Freedom owners group, Alan set up a Yahoo group with the two of us as moderators. It is inactive but still alive and could become the new home. Note that we can leave this group going for purposes of the archives.

That seems to be the best solution, if Alvin and Alan (Al & Al ??)
wouldn’t mind doing the moderation. I wouldn’t.

the url is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FreedomOwnersGroup/ and I am
also a moderator. Everyone is invited to join if you haven’t already.

I’ve been reporting these email spam addresses to yahoo as they pop
up, but there’s no way to stay on top of it.

Do we move the board again?

I have been a member of this group (or the old ones) for about 10
years now. The Freedom owners boards have been and continue to be an
invaluable resource for all who own, would like to own, or wish they
still owned one of these boats.

These boards should be a safe enjoyable place for all (including
minors) to come for info or just to share they’re love of sailing
with like minded folks. Spam on our board is both irritating as well
as inappropriate for all of us!

To this end, multiple moderators is the way to go. If Yahoo will not
lend a hand to fix what is broke, then it is up to us to fix the
problem. I do see two challenges for those that would start a new
board.

  1. Find a way to filter(spam) and transfer our archives to the
new board. As it is, we are already in a situation of having
archives in repose in different places. Of course the ideal would be
to have all old archives as well as current in one place.

  2. Some folks are on the board every day, but others only when
they have a question. Finding a “NO BRAINER” way for those people to
find the new site would in my mind be of utmost importance. We do
not want to leave anyone behind because they were not privy to our
    move! (AGAIN!!!)

As a couple of our shakers and movers have already opened a
generically named site (no year date in the name) and already have
multiple moderators, why not bite the bullet and do what is right for
the group as a whole. I can tell you from experience that spam only
gets worse!

Just, let’s not leave anyone behind.

What’s YOUR point of view? SPEAK UP NOW! It’s YOUR board!

We need one or more of the computer gurus out there to figure out a way to move the archive. A European Freedom owner copied the original Freedom list and posted it on his web site for a few years. I made hard copies but that doesn’t help anyone else.

If we do move to the moderated site, I would gladly send an email to this site weekly telling folks that we’ve moved.

Looks like the real major issue is moving the archive. I’ll check with my
computer guy to see if it’s possible and how we can make it happen.
As far as changing the site, it’s simply a matter of all the members of the
2003 group enrolling in the FreedomOwners group which is pretty
simple. It’s actually more work for the moderators to approve new members.
Thanks to the moderators, by the way, who are willing to take on this project.

Back when we were trying to form the
owners group I copied the 1999-2000 archives from the web server the owner you
referred to had temporarily kept up. I did this just to make sure we wouldn’t
lose the information.
I still have it in pdf format but work
would be required to organize it or repost it.
There are a number of programs available
to download messages, pictures and files from a yahoo group. I’ll buy one
or look for freeware and try it. However this will not get them back up on the
other group. If there’s an easy way to create a pdf to post of the
archives I’ll give it a try.

Alan

Yes, I agree. I volunteer to be one of the moderators, if necessary.
We also have the Freedomownersgroup website already setup, with Alan
Kusinitz as a moderator. We could use that, with his permission.
