After 22 years I’m noteing that the foam backed fabric covering some
of the inside of the hull of my Freedom 25 is starting to pull away
from the hull (foam is deteriorating). I’m thinking of replacing it
all instead of just reglueing. Anyone know a source for this material?

I used to buy that stuff from an industrial place in South San
Francisco but I can’t remember the name of the outfit. You’ll want
some type of closed cell foam but research it carefully. Urethane is
bad because it will burn easily. Some types of foam will absorb odors
which could make you miserable after several years.

I don’t know if the headliner material in your 25 is the same as my
Hoyt32, so this may, or may not be of any use to you.
I replaced the headliner in the saloon and galley due to the same
problem you are having. I did some research and came up with a
material almost exactly like the original stuff. I located it at a
commercial outlet that handles all types of vinyls and canvas
(sumbrella, etc). The stuff is normally used for vinyl tops on
autos, and is backed with a “fuzzy” material as opposed to foam,
hence no foam deteriation. I cut new wood panels from mahogany door
skin using the old wood as a pattern, sprayed both with contact
adhesive, and re-installed the panels. I also made a couple of minor
modifications that makes for a better job than was done by TP, but,
of course, I had the time.
If you decide to do this, make sure that you get the right kind of
contact adhesive, as some will attack the vinyl. Your retailer can
help you with that.
If you need any more info from me about the job, just email me.
