Spinnaker Chute Mouth/Sleeve

Posted by wilfred2736 (wilf.bishop@…>)

Hi All,

I noticed the recent correspondence on spinnaker launch sleeves for
the F25 & F21. I lost patience with my badly cut & wrongly sized
lace-on sleeve for my F21 and I designed & made a neat fibreglass
moulding that fits into the F21 pulpit cut-out. All I need to do is
fasten on a straight tapered fabric sleeve with elastic bungee cord
and this makes launch & recovery of the sail a breeze. The moulding
is made to be canted to port to allign with the run of the fabric
sleeve as I carry the launch sleeve to port on my boat.

I have written-up an article on this item with photos and Max Lent
will shortly be publishing this on the F21 modifications site at
http://freedom21.info/modifications.htm - please take a look.

I must point out that this fibreglass moulding is sized to fit the
pulpit aparture on the UK-built F21’s which may not correspond to
the cut-out size on USA built F21’s & F25’s? I can post on Max
Lent’s site the exact dimensions of the moulding if anyone is
interested.

I am bust making a new carbon composite lift rudder for my UK-built
twin lift keel F21 at present and trying to finish all the other pre-
launch jobs but in about a month’s time I should be able to find the
time to make up some of these mouldings if anyone is interested?

Wilf, that is just amazingly beautiful craftsmanship. Honestly, seeing
your writeup and pictures of both the process and the results are very
impressive. I’d have NEVER taken on a project that complicated. Wow!

Could you give me some idea of the dimensions of both the tube and also
the upper flange that fits the bow pulpit? I’ll measure my bow pulpit
on my F32, ponder it, and I could alter to fit and if it seems like
something that is large enough to work, I’d seriously consider having
you build one for me.

You can post it to the F21 site or, for me, just go to straight email.

Thanks,

I noticed that folks are still coming up with solutions to prevent
water from flowing down to the bottom of the mast at the
partners/deck on the F21s and F25s. Therefore, I’m going to repeat my
solution, which was to go to a plumbing supplier and purchasing a
FERNCO adapter fitting intended to mate plastic or copper drain
plumbing to cast iron plumbing (they are large differences in the
outside diameter of these types of pipe. This fitting is made of
thick neoprene (nearly bulletproof) rubber, and has a nice, useful
bell shape. The 6" size fits the F25 wing mast. I don’t know the
diameter of the F21 mast, but chances are you can find the right size
after measuring its diameter. Herm

In response to questions about the precise size of my spinnaker
chute mouth I have posted a version 2 of my write up on the site
http://freedom21.info/modifications.htm which gives all relevant
dimensions so that anyone can quickly make up a cardboard template
to see if the chute mouth will fit their pulpit set-up.
