SSB Antenna on a F-32

Posted by john reed (john-reed@…>)

We are in the process of installing an SSB transceiver on our F-32 (Sam).
Normally, if I understand this correctly, the backstay is used the for
antenna after properly insulating it at both ends. Since the F-32 does not
have a backstay, and the forestay is occupied supporting the ‘jib’, where do
I put the antenna? I was thinking of running it from the masthead to either
the port of starboard rail but I’m not sure if that constitutes enough
distance.

Who among you has done this and how?

Thanks

That is enough distance as I understand it but you will need to
install shockcord to handle the flexing mast. I just converted mine
from the front (it ran from the masthead to the bow) because of the
mast flex. I installed a 23’ whip antenna off of the stern. As
long as you get the antenna parallel to the mast it doesn’t look
bad. I purchased a three piece antenna so that I can remove it and
store it from the ceiling on the starboard side if I want to. Let
me know if you have anyother questions.
