Staysail for Freedom 25 (for sale)

I have a Melges 24 Kevlar jib with internal low stretch luff, that I used as a Staysail on my Freedom 25. I tacked the sail to the deck as was suggested in other posts on this site. I have two other Staysails that tack to the top of the gun mount and am using those, so the Meges jib is surplus if any one is interested.

Jim,

I am interested now in how the stay sail works.

I am new to sailing, so I did not have a stay sail on my boat. When the boom broke, I was missing having something I could use to get home with besides the 6 hp outboard.

Would be nice to have another option.

Best regards,

Matt

Matt,

If you have a Freedom 25, the stay sail can either tack to the top of the gun mount or to the pad eye on the deck.
The sail obviously has it’s own internal wire luff or in this case a low stretch line. The Melges 24 class jib fits if tacked to the deck. Our boat has a track mounted on the cabin top with an adjustable slide and stand up block, to sheet the sail. I think most of the Freedom 25’s utilize a snatch block at a stantion base to sheet the sail.

What shapeis the sail, age, where are you located, and what is the price? Thanks -jim georgas F25

Jim Georgas,

The sail is about one year old. It was new when I got it from Masthead Sailing Gear in 2009. They put the low strectch luff rope in it. I only used it about three or four times last season. I paid about $595 for it plus the rope, but am open to offers. We are located on Lake Sabine about 90 miles southeast of Houston, TX.

It’s a year later and I’ve just come aboard. Do you still have the Melges 24 jibsail?
