My club has a rather steep ramp. This means that when launching the
stern floats off of the trailer long before the bow does. This causes
the bow to slide down the bow bumper on the trailer and finaly the
forward edge of the deck catches on the bumper and is chipping the
deck edge. I am giong to replace the fixed rubber bumper with a poly-
urithane roller this weekend to see if this helps. I am even
considering fancy knot work like on the bows of tugs to protect the
deck lip on the bow of my boat.
I have another problem when recovering the boat…
because of the steep angle of the ramp, the bow eye is initaly below
the bow bumper on the trailer. Well actualy the deck is below the
bumper as well. If I back in deeper I run the risk of the keel guides
ending up below the keel instead of bracketing it. Should I hook on
the base of the bow pulpit untill the boat it weinched closer to the
front of the trailer? Will the pulpit support this kind of strain?
Has any one else had to deal with steep ramps? I would welcome your
suggestions!

Clark, I have the same situation when I pull my fixed keel out for the season.I removed the rubber V bracket so I could get the bow closer to the front of the trailer.Just like your boat, it falls back when I pull it out of the water and I have no tongue weight on the trailer.20 years I have been doing this. I never got the boat where I would really like it to be.I won’t loose any sleep over it either.If you come up with a solution,tell me about it. I bought the parts needed to make this work several years ago but use
a slip now and have not spent time to install them.
A “V” roller which will be installed to lift the hull out of the
water a bit forward of where the front of the keel comes to rest. A
second roller might be needed for the fin keel to get the nose up to
the rubber V-bushing.
Do NOT trailer w/o a V-bushing, the result is a pain to repair, even
when as in my case it was only cosmetic. Instead raise the winch or
lower the pad-eye so it lifts the boat up to the V-bushing.
My boat tends to walk backward if the strap is not 100% tight. If the
strap is loose the boat can rotate on the trailer causing shear forces
to the belt - not good. Again- use a V-bushing.
I also have two 12" straight rollers, one for each side of the keel,
that will guide the keel to the center of the trailer. Technically
they don’t have to be rollers, but the keel will slide better when it
can move, and its weight will be transferred away from the roller.
