I sailed my 21 into the ground Sunday. My son-in-law and I managed to
rock the boat free after 20 minutes of angst. Anyway, the point of the
e-mail is that I had my fancy-schmancy tack-tic things operating and
one of them I thought was supposed to warn me with a beep-beep when
ground was approaching. Maybe I hit one of the buttons with my knee
and disabled it. Anybody have one of these things and understand
their operation?

No, I don’t know anything about Tack-Tic, but I think that what you
need is a not so fancy-schmancy “Nantucket Sounder” (depth sounder):
