I am finally getting to restoring the teak interior on my Freedom 32. It got so dark I thought it was mahogany. :). Spills and spots from 3GM30 eruption (a story for another time…replace that useless pile of iron for new Yanmar).
I bought a product for cleaning teak (soap) that works amazingly well with scrubbing and a light wet sanding. Going to put light coat of sealer on it when done and lighter in color.
Pictures on wall on left is cleaned, right is not yet cleaned. On galley rail left is not cleaned, right is. May varnish galley rail as it gets wet a lot.
Another 50 hours and I will be done.
The real issue is the sole. The teak and holly verner has come up in many places, not well sealed in corners and probably not worthy of restoring. It seems that taking up the flooring is next to impossible without a total cabin disassembly. Unlike production boats, the sole seems not be be merely fastened to a fiberglass structure.
Has anyone dealt with this? Replaced it? Open to ideas (other than complete interior disassembly).
No idea what is next, doubting I have the skill to replace a verneer,
Thanks
