I recommend that we agree to:
- name a temporary Volunteer Secretary to keep an orderly record of
the progression of the formation of the proposed new Freedom Owners’
group; to research and place in chronological order the issues
presented so far, starting with Message Board message #2161, which
initiated this entire discussion; and to keep a record of all
matters involving formation of the Group.
2)Then name a volunteer five member Steering Committee (Freedom boat
owners) to steer us on a proper course to:
A. Coordinate with, and get the permission of, and the cooperation
of, the Freedom Yachts Corporation (builders of Freedom boats), to
use the Freedom name and to form and promote our owners’ group.
B. Choose a name for our group, based upon the wishes of the boat
owners;
C. Draft the proposed legal status structure of the group;
D. Prepare proposed Constitution and Bylaws, including Purpose of
the Group, Type of Governing Board, and number of and
responsibilities of Board members; dues structure; Officer
Positions, and responsibilities of Oficers; procedure for election
of Board members and Officers; etc
- After we get organized, and have volunteer Freedom boat owners
steering us as Directors and Officers, we can then decide on which
website to use; the amount of membership dues and the use thereof;
and all other matters involved in operating an “internet based”
owners’ Association.
Talented volunteers are the key to success, and it seems that we
already have a number of such people who have already expressed a
desire to so serve. It would be nice to have a CPA, an Attorney, and
a Computer “expert” on the Steering committee.

for an excellent example of a group that has done something like
what we’re proposing, check out the Anderson Island Irregulars. They
formed when I was still teaching sailing at Mystic Seaport, and
they’ve been very successful.
