Thinking of selling a boat

Hello Friends of Freedom boats.
I have one and im thinking about putting it on the market, so im just going to throw this out there:
where do you think is the best place (choose from Caribbean or East Coast) to sell a Freedom boat? Im saying this knowing that with internet sales it almost doesnt matter but i am very aware that a boat with an unstayed mast will turn off 19 out of 20 prospective buyers, and i think people on the East Coast would be most familiar with and open to such a vessel. Let me know your thoughts…

They came from Kingston, RI. I venture to guess that you would find the most lovers of unstayed masts in that area. I had never seen one before, but as soon as I did, I knew I wanted mine. There are none like it in the Finger Lakes of NY.

Close. Warren, RI and Melville, RI.

Yes…i know…I’m told Annapolis area might be a good shot, but hey, keep going north, why not…

You can’t swing a dead cat without hitting one on Long Island Sound.
I could see four others from my mooring a few years back. This is also a hotbed for Nonsuch boats, so the unstayed mast thing is not as big an issue here as it may be in other places.

What model are you selling… ??

My F 40/40 is on Lake Ontario. I know of at least two others on Lake Ontario plus quite a few other models. RCR and Rochester used to be a broker. It is a niche boat. If someone is looking for one, they will find you.

Please pm me if you have a large cat ketch…
Thanks

For what it’s worth, i bought mine in Baltimore, not far from Annapolis. Being based in UK i felt it was easier access and easier to refit than the Caribbean.

Haven’t seen many on the west coast of Canada and the Nonsuch vessels here don’t seem to stay long on the market. There are still

Wooden boat builders here making a good living so my feeling is that classic aesthetics is appreciated here and simple uncomplicated rigs.

I think you’re right about the East Coast being a better spot to sell. There are more sailing communities there familiar with Freedom boats and their unique rigs, so you’ll probably find buyers who actually appreciate what they offer instead of being unsure about the unstayed mast. The Caribbean could work too, but most people there are more focused on cruising ready boats and might not be as familiar with this design. If you decide to list it online, make sure to include detailed photos and mention any upgraded boat parts or maintenance work you have done, that always helps attract serious buyers.

Thank you for that. Ive had it on the market in St Maarten since May with no serious inquiries, just a few perfunctory. I installed a lot of improvements, (more on the way) and after a winter in the Carib will be bringing the boat to Mid Atlantic in the spring/early summer. Hope to pick up a new mainsail in Florida, from an outfit that built several of them for other F45s. My impression is that ppl in the general boat buying public are completely baffled by unstayed masts - the buyer would have to be a Freedom/Nonsuch enthusiast. Not many of those around…
The boat is '94, but the mast is only 9 y.o…(of those, about 3 were spent on the hard)
