Throttle cable

It was recommended that I replace the throttle cable and remote on Mr Freedom 40/40 with Yanmar 3JH2-TE. I cannot read the notation, if any, on the current cable. Anyone know what the cable type and length is?

Hi, Just curious, why the recommendation to replace the cable? Is it recommended at a certain frequency? The repeating throttle issue on my Freedom is that the rotating throttle part attached on the motor (that the cable connects to) needs repeating lube and movement back and forth to loosen it.

Check your cable for wear. Mine has some weak spots. It may last forever or fail tomorrow Mine are probably original, over 30 years old. I’m planning to go offshore and it was recommended to replace. Good seamanship and another expense.
I called Edson and they were able to identify the replacement. I just need to measure the length.

Excellent input, thanks!

Have a great trip!

Marc, please confirm when you get the cable if indeed 20’ is the right length. Im sure other 40/40 owners would be quite thankful to know the length and diameter of it.

It’s actually an easy run. I ran some paracord from throttle remote to engine and measured 22‘ but that’s tight and some slack is needed. I may get 24’ and still worry.

Marc
