Hi folks.
Can anyone steer me toward a place where I can get the 5" stainless
steel bolts, by which the traveler track is attached to the cabin top?
West marine didn’t have them–including in the catalogue, Home Depot,
Lowes–all no go. Two of the bolts on the left side of my traveler
track need to be replaced after water got in next to them, and froze,
shearing off the barrel nut on the inside end. I am in the process of
dealing with the wet core material, but May is coming on strong.

On page 3014 there are a few selections, not too sure what the thread size
is that is needed for that application, but there 5" long versions there
with flat heads.

Thanks, Peter
Also try Bosun Supplies. I bought some nice SS footman loops (stuff
for webbing) from them. They also have lots of nice stuff. Good
site to bookmark.

What size nut is it? I can’t seem to find a nut that will go on the
bolt -Screw- that is used to mount the traveler. I measured the screw
shaft and it seems to be 4 mm… ? in decimal it is about .160" close
to a #10 size. Also my screw is not 5.00" but 4.25" long…This is
the screw closest to the companionway.
The screw is fine but the nut has broken. I was cleaning the cabin
ceiling and the traveler barrel nut just fell off as I brushed
it…

It is a #10. The barrel nut is available at the Jamestown
distributor link given previously. I called them and ordered six 5"
stainless steel bolts and the corresponding nuts. The order cost
almost nothing, the phone person was uncommonly pleasant and helpful,
and the stuff was on my doorstep in one day. The thread size is…I
forget already the numbers , but the larger of the two usual options.
Actually, they only have the correct option.

Going back on the subject, I also ordered bolts/nuts from Jamestown as well and I did have some water in the strbrd traveler track post ( adjacent to the hatch ). I poked at its side and… well I crumbled half of the core in this post out because it was wet, rotted and basically disintegrated. Filing it with epoxy will not be a problem. I took the track off and found some silicone bedding underneath it. There was some discussion and disappointment how manufacturer attached the track in the first place without using any sealant. My question is how do I seal the hole setup when putting it back ? Marine silicone around and inside every bolt hole ?
Dmitry.
