Treasure Island Rendezvous

Ok all interested - let’s start to talk about the 10/14-15 2017 raft-anchor out get together for Freedom’s. well need names of people and boat info.

Thanks!

Thanks for hauling up the main sheet…

The rookies, Bill & Carole Smith have the date entered into our schedule. Sailing out of the mid-Peninsula, dredging will be finished and tides no longer a worry leaving marina. Not a member of Coyote Point YC or any other. If we deadbeats can tag along, much appreciated.

We have an anchor, will spend some trial and error time expanding our knowledge base. No dink or dinghy, been looking. Have a sling to attach one to radar arch. More trail and error sessions before October.

Have boat in common with ‘Camino’, F35 Pedrick sloop. Believe ‘gamayun’/Carliane and my wife have a mutual acquaintance from Half Moon Bay. And would welcome the chance to meet other Freedom owners, few they might be.

Any east coasters have October travel plans that include San Francisco?

Ha, I had wondered if we knew each other! It’s really just a small bay after all.

Camino, please confirm the dates. We had initially discussed Oct 14-15. I am so looking forward to this!

Kynntana is a 1988 Freedom 38 that I bought in January 2013 in San Diego. I have been prepping K (or more so, me) for the singlehanded TransPac, which is next scheduled for July 2018. Mike Cunningham (Jacqueline) did the race last year. This process, including working up to more solo offshore races, is really teaching me so much about my boat. After almost 30 years, K was in serious need of some upgrades, which is slowly getting done, but overall, I’ve found the F38 to be a solid and highly capable offshore boat.

We can do 14-15OCT17 or any other date in October between the 7th and the 20th. I have to be back in Vallejo NLT the 21st. I have a 1980 blue 33F CK/CB Millennium Falcon, 2 people and a dog, Doug, Marie and Frankie. Hope we can do the earlier date in October, looking forward to meeting everyone and seeing other Freedoms.

I can’t keep dates straight! It is October 14-15.

I believe we have 5 boats so far

Treasure Island Development Authority - the watery governing body - requires each boat to complete a permit. This permit I believe is for stays of 24 hrs or longer. Not certain as to exactly how long we will be there so please take a moment to complete the permit - I turned one in for Good Way II -'quick and easy.

Below find 3 cut and paste links : TI overview, TIDA rules, and the permit. Make sense?

So far we may have the following people for the rendezvous

Ketch 22. F39 Express
Tom Marlow

Mike Cunningham F30

Bill Smith F35 p

Gamayun, F38

Goose13 (possible), 33ck

Camino (Tom Johnson) F35 p

Submitted online permit request. Painless. No receipt, just a “Thank You” after submission of information. Guess you get what you pay for…

Wow…now wishing I had my Freedom out here in the Bay area.

It would be a long sail from Ft. Lauderdale.

Have fun!

My permit has been submitted, too.

As was mine.

This is a blast, like Mike said! I’ll be in the bay tomorrow hoping for the predicted sw winds and one tack to the bridge ( usually it takes me 6-12 tacks to get out !).

If you see a blue hull F38 some time around 1230 to 1430, that’ll be Kynntana racing between Sausalito Yacht Club and the city front

My permit submitted. You learn something every day. I have anchored in Clipper many many times and didn’t realize a permit was required. Never been hassled. Go figure.

Gamayun - I did see a number of boats coming across from Sausalito - I was north side of Alcatraz and city front, sporting a single reef  I didn’t see any reefs in the boats coming over  guess that’s why I seldom race! lol took me a dozen tacks to achieve city front but I was enjoying it what with just turning the wheel and all - and in my exact case, pressing my remote AP buttons). Wind was 17-20 mostly with way more west than I expected - I am very impressed, with the f35p

Mike - know what you mean re clipper cove. I think we are all set for the 10-14, 15 raft up/ anchor but I haven’t heard back from the tiyc - I’ll call Monday before I leave. - I called again but no reply yet - I’m sure all good - heading out in the morning. In between Montana and n Carolina I may be back for a quick sail in between - stay in touch

Watching news today, see they are blowing up the old bridge so those of us from the South Bay don’t have to sail around Treasure Island and take a more direct route.

Then and now you should be able to hug close the cg station on treasure, sail under rhe white main span and head directly to clipper cove.

On a similar note i have not heard back from tiyc. Ill be in position to phone then tuesday (again) . All is good im certain.

Thanks for doing the leg work. Much appreciated.

We’re looking at dinghies. Postponed anchor practice to see daughter this weekend. On the schedule for next.

Have fun!

I live out here part time in the Bay Area and would love to raft up but I keep my Freedom 32 in Ft Lauderdale. I end up sailing on a friend’s Hunter 43 a lot (ugh).

Love to see pictures,

Getting close to the rendezvous-- I have not heard back from TIYC for a while - I believe we are on track for their dinner for Saturday. Somewhere I heard they will contact me 36 hours ahead - so let you know. They have not been returning phone calls or emails. In the event their dinner is closed we will have advance warning to prepare our own dinner afloat - either group or individual. I’m open.

You are welcome to raft with GoodWay II or anchor. Goodway is 35’ and uses a rocna. With 5-6 boats we can use a couple rafts as well.

I’ve booked a loose engagement for wine tasting ashore at 2:00pm - I can change that time slot  If we have 10 people or more we can have cheese and meat snacks there - so possibly let me know if interested! Could be a latish lunch!

We can also cockpit meet for happy hour afloat after that and after a rest before dinner(good time to compare notes on boats) - my wife and I will have a supply of wine( red and white) and beer and water. Perhaps we’ll need hors d’oeuvres as well  Hopefully dinner back ashore and more conversation afloat.

Sunday is open- suggestions? Tour TI? Museum is closed I believe.

Btw high tide is 9:08am. Low tide is 2:33pm
